Voddie Baucham | NASCAR races and enormous crowds

We live in a country that calculates its debt, I think, in zillions now. It’s not that big of a number to us, 1,000. To the first century mind, that’s huge, almost incalculable.

We have sporting events that have this many people. NASCAR has races with more people than this. So we don’t even have to imagine this number. You can actually go see this number.

Modern audiences are accustomed to seeing enormous crowds. First-century Christians, however, would have found a number like 144,000 almost unimaginable.

Main lesson: The magnitude of God’s redeemed people is far greater than the original audience could easily comprehend.
